Intel Core i9 vs AMD Ryzen 9 – Which one is better?

I9 vs ryzen 9: Continuing with the battle of the Intel core and AMD Ryzen processors, there is another on the line battle amongst them. The latest processor of the series of both the big names, i9 vs Ryzen 9 is a must to have battle in terms of processor.

intel i9 vs ryzen 9 comparison

There are several factors on which any processor can be analyzed as it is good or not. Some of these includes- core count, clock speed, cache size, processor type, etc. Higher is the clock speed and core counts more efficient is the performance and provide the snappier system. It also helps in the smooth gameplay and flawless completion of intensive tasks.

On the basis of these factors we would be considering the winner of this battle. Whereas, both the processors are up to the mark in their performance, but comparison between them will give wide idea of pros and cons of these processors.

Previously we have already compared intel i3 vs ryzen 3 , ryzen 5 vs intel i5, and intel i7 vs ryzen 7 do check them if you want more information about them.

i9 vs Ryzen9 – Difference in the performance

As mentioned earlier the factors plays an important role to judge a processor. Talking in terms of the core counts of these processors, AMD Ryzen 9 outperforms than Intel Core i9 in this case. This is because i9 has a total of 8 cores whereas ryzen 9 consist of 12 cores. The higher number of cores of ryzen 9 helps it in the higher performance result because of multiple processing at the same time and multitasking with the greater ease.

In terms of clock speed, it won’t differ much. The base frequency of i9 processor is 3.6 GHz with a maximum boost frequency of 5 GHz. On the other hand Ryzen 9 provides a base frequency of 3.8 GHz and maximum of 4.6 GHz boost frequency. Here clock speed is considered as the needy factor because the instruction retrieving and interpreting depends on the clock speed itself. Higher is the clock speed more number of tasks will be completed in the faster rate.

If talking about the cache size, ryzen 9 processor outperforms well in this case. This is because the cache memory of AMD Ryzen 9 is about 70 MB while on the other hand i9 processor comes with the cache size of 30 MB. Cache memory also is a deciding factor for the comparison. The cache memory is a temporarily stored data memory which the processor can reuse. The larger is the cache memory size, lesser will be the time taken by the processor to fetch the instructions.

The fourth and most crucial deciding factor is the processor type. The latest processors of both of these processors includes i9-11950H, i9-11980HK, i9-11900 and AMD Ryzen9 5900X, 5950X, 7950X. The processor should be of latest version and updated one. More powerful and updated is the processor, faster will be the task execution by your processor.

i9 vs Ryzen 9 – Which one is best for gaming?

Even though i9 has proven to be a powerful processor and has maximum efficiency than Ryzen 9. But if we talk about the high end gaming performance then Ryzen 9 overtakes i9 in this race. In that too, the most powerful processor for high end gaming which can executes the maximum number of instructions in less time while processing is AMD Ryzen 9 5900X.

Ryzen 9 5900 X Specifications –

  • Number of CPU Cores – 12
  • Number of Threads – 24
  • Maximum boost clock speed – 4.8 GHz
  • Base clock speed – 3.7 GHz
  • L2 & L3 cache – 6 MB, 64 MB
  • OS support – Windows 10 – 64 Bit Edition, RHEL x86 64-Bit, Ubuntu x86 64-Bit

PROS –

  • Improved gaming performance
  • New single core
  • Excellent application performance
  • Multiplier unlocked

CONS –

  • CPU cooler is not included
  • Expensive than its predecessor

All of this is crucial for us since games frequently rely significantly on quick cache and lightning-fast memory access, so even giving additional cores access to a bigger block of L3 cache may boost performance.

AMD Ryzen 9 5900 X vs Intel Core i9 11900K

Last year, AMD’s Ryzen 5000 CPUs overtook Intel’s Comet Lake processors in the desktop PC market.

SpecsAMD Ryzen 9 5900 XIntel Core i9 11900K
Cores/Threads12/248/16
Base Frequency3.7 GHz3.5 GHz
Peak Boost Frequency4.8 GHz5.2 GHz
TDP105 W125 W
L364 MB16 MB

With eight cores and 16 threads, the Core i9-11900K has two less cores than the Core i9-10900K and four cores less than the Ryzen 9 5900X. Of fact, since different architectures offer differing amounts of performance per core, core counts aren’t the be-all and end-all. Although Rocket Lake does occasionally outperform AMD’s Zen 3 cores in our IPC tests, Zen 3 is still marginally faster overall.

i9 vs Ryzen 9 for students

Most of the students need their laptop to be faster and want the processing less time consuming. For this, a processor with maximum number of threads and cores is a must for the fast processing and multitasking with a quick instruction fetching ability. This is because certain software such as Android Studio, AutoCAD, etc. requires fast instruction processing and hence a high-end processor too.

AMD Ryzen 9 as mentioned earlier has the more number of threads and cores than the Intel core i9 processor. When both processors are fully used, the Ryzen 9 significantly outperforms the Core i9. Given that the Ryzen 9 has more of them, that is an entirely reasonable consequence.

Final Thoughts –

Summing up all, AMD Ryzen 9 is quite on the heavy side in this battle if compared with Intel Core i9 processor. But it can not be considered as i9 is not much powerful and effective processor. Intel has always came with the most trusted and powerful processors along its way. i9 latest processor i.e., 11900K is competing to most of the predecessors of ryzen 9 5900X.

But is specifically talking about both of these latest versions, than AMD Ryzen 9 has the best processor in terms of performance in multitasking as well in the gaming performance.

Since AMD’s Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 5950X processors have more cores and a high-performance design, they continue to dominate the desktop market when it comes to multi-threaded workloads. This will continue to remain the case until Intel introduces larger core counts or fixes their outdated 10th Gen high-end desktop CPUs.
